California Guide
Eureka, you've found it! Eureka, California's State Motto, suggests innovation, advancement and the future, which is what California is known for. Here, you can experience world famous attractions, beautiful scenery and first class entertainment in this diverse and exciting state by staying in any one of California's hotels. Hotels in California range from the kitschy, to quirky, to absolutely magnificent. This is, after all, a state that caters to the stars.
California is best traveled North to South, making your way down the scenic coastline. San Francisco is a nice introduction to California life with its townhouses and steeply sloping streets. If you don't feel up to the sometimes strenuous walking that these streets require, you might prefer taking the cable car from your California hotel to the sights around town. San Francisco's best stops include Union Square, Chinatown, North Beach, Lombard St. (known as 'The Crookedest Street in the World'), and Golden Gate Park.
Heading south to Los Angeles, the trip can be split up by stopping in Santa Cruz, Big Sur, or Santa Barbara. Los Angeles itself is a sprawling city of glitz and glamour. Beverly Hills, Anaheim, Hollywood, Santa Monica and Long Beach each offer something for the traveler. Whether you want to view cutting edge art, dance at the hippest clubs, see how your hands compare to Marilyn Monroe's, scope out the home of your favorite movie star, or just lounge on the beach, LA has it all.
While traveling south of Los Angeles a stop in Orange County is a must - this is the home to Disneyland, probably the most famous theme park on earth. Thrill seekers will prefer the close by Knott's Berry Farm, which contains dozens of terrifying rides and roller coasters.
If you want year-round tennis and golf then you need to check out Palm Springs, home to some of the most exquisite hotels and resorts in California. Finally, San Diego is just about as far south as you can get in the United States. Here, the climate is pleasant and the beaches are plentiful. The San Diego Zoo and Sea World are its main attractions, and its Spanish influenced food, shopping and lifestyle are a welcome change from the rest of California.
